Graduate Certificate in Nursing – Online

Note: International students in Australia who hold a student visa are required to study full-time and on-campus*. Such courses that are taught entirely online are only available to international students studying outside Australia and also those in Australia who are not on a student visa. These online courses are not open to international students in Australia holding a student visa.

Admission Requirements

For Online Applicants
The prerequisites for admission to the GCN/GDN course for students who wish to take the course online include:

  • Being an International graduate nurse who has completed three year of Nursing/ Bachelor of Nursing / Diploma of Nursing
  • Holding a registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Board from their country of origin or practice;
  • Having at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse;
  • Possessing adequate computer access and computer skills in working with and knowledge of Microsoft Office courses; and
  • Providing evidence of an IELTS level of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6, or equivalent scores in OET/PTE or
  • Passing a short academic essay in the English Language (500 – 700 words) on a topic provided by IHM from a pool of approved essay topics. You will require a minimum grade of 65 % and will also have to attend an interview with IHM academic staff.

Note that each application will be accessed on a case by case basis by the course coordinator in accordance with the Student Selection and Admission Policy and Procedures for Course delivered to Overseas Students.

Nested Course Structure

If a student chooses to exit midway through the GDN course, they may graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Nursing, consisting of four units of study over one study period full time or, for non CRICOS students, two study periods part time.

Note that students who have already completed a Graduate Certificate in Nursing may be eligible for advanced standing, subject to credit transfer and recognition of prior learning procedures.
