Things you’ll learn to do

  • Assist clients with nutrition, elimination, medication, safety, ambulation and hygiene.
  • Chart patients’ progress and assess their conditions.
  • Care for wounds, change dressings and give medication.
  • Educate and promote health and well-being.
  • Care for patients through all stages of a disease process including palliative care.

Hands-on experience

In your final semester, you’ll participate in a 360-hour practicum, gaining on-the-job experience that will boost your résumé and build your confidence. While most placements are local, you can choose to apply for an international placement in the Dominican Republic or in the Canadian north.
Clinical placements are critical to integrated learning as a Practical Nurse and are mandatory to be successful in the program. Students can be placed within 150 kilometers of Sheridan College. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to clinical placements.
