Overseas nurses wishing to work in Ireland must get registered as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) www.nmbi.ie. After assessment of documents and obtaining the Decision Letter, candidates will have the option of undergoing an Adaptation program or undertake the nursing competency tests.
Nurses trained outside the European Union will be required to undergo a 6-week period of clinical adaptation prior to gaining full nurse registration. This will be a combination of Theory sessions and clinical placements. Candidates will be employed with a nursing home as a Heath Care Assistant during the period of Adaptation
Candidates will have to undertake a nursing competency test which also includes a clinical/ practical test in Ireland. On successful completion, candidates will be eligible for registration as RN with NMBI. They can travel on a Work Visa to Ireland and be employed with a nursing home in order to get trained for the tests.
