Work Rights During Studies

For international students, on-campus jobs in Dubai are a new addition to the job sector. Numerous universities offer job openings to students in libraries, different departments of the university and in administration as well.

You are permitted to work for 15 hours a week or 60 hours a month only when the semester is in session. the students can work up to 40 hours per week, i.e., 160 hours per month during summer breaks or when the academic session is not in progress.

Both employers and employees who are expatriate residents can sponsor their families in the UAE given they have a valid residency permit.

Work rights for your spouse

If you are married, you can sponsor your spouse for a residence visa in the UAE. He or she requires a work permit from the employer, if the spouse decides to work. The latest regulation by the Labour Ministry in 2011 indicates that residents in the UAE under the sponsorship of their spouse can now work without a permit.

Post Study work rights

The Dubai work visa is commonly described to as the “Residence permit for employment”. Eligible applicants aspiring to work in Dubai in the private sector can stay up to three years under this visa. Eligible applicants must provide a range of evidence to substantiate their application including medical certificate.

What if you wish to stay longer?

Currently, a student’s visa is given for a duration of one year, at a time, renewable for a similar period upon an official proof of continuation of a study issued from the relevant higher educational institute in the UAE where the student is admitted.

Post-Study Work Rights / Stay Back Option

Under the current visa norm, the international students studying in the United Arab Emirates are now qualified for a five-year student visa, replacing the one-year visa term.

The silver lining is, if you are excelling exceptionally in your studies in Dubai then you will be eligible for a 10-year residency while remaining students can get a five-year visa. The dependents of the applicant will receive a visa extension in order to help them to begin their careers after graduating.

Professional Specialists, such as doctors and engineers are also eligible for a 10-year residency visa.
